Flat part 2
Sunday morning I was about to leave to go get my student card and I saw Chris in the hall. He was off to town becuse he needed to buy stuff. When he said stuff I assumed he meant food. If I had remembered he flew here on a plane with a single suitcase, ‘stuff’ should have been everything a student could ever need excluding clothes. He hadn’t even brought a toothbrush.
Then Ben appeared and decided to come with us, so we all walked down into the city centre chatting. We got Chris his stuff and then we had to look for an adapter plug for his phone and laptop chargers that both had European plugs on them. We failed, so he now has two very expensive doorstops after they ran out of battery.
When we got back, Martin was having lunch and Tom had arrived. We all got talking wondered who the 6th and final person in our flat would be. Ben claimed he saw someone briefly on Saturday but he wasn’t sure so we figured it was just one of our parents. The day went on and we sat around doing not very much. Then I went to my room to watch the Grand Prix on iPlayer and noticed people waving at me from one of the flats in the opposite block. I waved back and got everyone else to come and see. Several messages were exchanged via marker pen on paper held up to the window and we went over to see them. As it turned out, one of the guys in that flat had been talking to me on Facebook for several weeks. Everyone got along and one of them asked me who was in the room next to me. Being on the end of the corridor I only had one neighbour which was the empty room, so I told them no-one. They laughed and said that there was someone, and that he wasn’t waving back. The 5 of us looked in amazement at the final lodger in our flat who had been living undercover for over a day. Intrigued, we rushed back and knocked on his door.
His name is Eric, he is Dutch, and he likes sitting in his room on his own with his laptop and several beers. He didn’t talk much but his English was good. And now he knows who we are he comes out a lot more.
So that’s us. 6 guys who will probably make the flat a mess and eat lots of junk food. At least we don’t share a bathroom.
